Planning for Music 2

Last time, I talked about creating the track list for the music in Aurora’s Nightmare.  This time, I’m going to talk a little bit about the music style.  Well, more specifically, some of my early thoughts on the music style.

Some game designers have a very specific music style in mind for their games and make sure the composer takes things in that direction.  Others just let the composer do his thing (with a bit of feedback here and there).  I personally can go either way depending on the game.  For Aurora’s Nightmare, I kept coming up with different musical styles that I thought could be a good fit.  For example, catchy and emotional instrumental pieces similar to those used in Kanon, or the upbeat / creepy contrast of Higurashi, or perhaps some grander like the music in Umineko.  I even considered a very choral focused soundtrack, like the ones done by Yuki Kajiura.
I could see any of those styles (and a few others for that matter) fitting well with the world and characters of Aurora’s Nightmare if done right, and I was having trouble making a decision.  I could have forced myself to pick a single style if I had to, but I decided to wait until I hired a composer and talk things over with him before deciding.  So what style will the music in Aurora’s Nightmare use?  I’m afraid you’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out.
